Dr. Erwin completed several internships in noted practices, both locally and elsewhere in the country, while earning her certifications and has had the good fortune to learn from some of the most respected experts in these fields.

Dr. Erwin's main goal is to provide a "wholistic" approach to veterinary medicine and helps to keep her patients fit and healthy by providing excellent preventative medicine, appropriate diagnostics, nutritional counseling, and necessary supportive therapies such as rehabilitation medicine and Traditional Chinese Medicine. She continues to challenge herself to stay up to date and to help bring these complementary therapies to Leesburg Veterinary Hospital. Dr. Erwin enjoys working with all of her patients and appreciates the bonds she forms with both the pets and their owners. Her special interests also include: Greyhound health care, senior pet wellness, and pawspice (veterinary hospice) and palliative care.

Dr. Erwin is married to her best friend, Jeremy, and their family includes their dogs (Amadeus, K.C., and Luna) and four cats (Oliver, Mabel, Georgette, and Amos). Dr. Erwin enjoys various activities such as reading, arts and crafts, and spending time with family and friends.

In June of 2004, she and her husband (also a DVM in the area) relocated to Winchester, VA, where she more recently worked at an AAHA hospital in the Winchester area for the past 4 years. Her special interests are in cardiology, soft-tissue surgery, abdominal and cardiac ultrasound, oncology, pocket pet and exotic medicine. She also has a special focus for lymphoma and diabetic management. Her style of medicine involves emphasis on client education to allow clients an active role in understanding the treatment and management of their pet's conditions.

She believes in staying current in all the latest advances and trends of care, while still keeping practical solutions in mind. Her treatment style is compassionate yet scientific, with an emphasis on preventative geriatric screening to catch serious conditions early, pain management, and treating the whole patient not just a disease. She has ambitions to complete the accreditation process for the American Board of Veterinary Practitioners under Dr. Strickland's excellent mentorship.

Dr. Nugent currently resides in Winchester and in her free time enjoys quality time with her wonderful husband Marcos, her energetic son Ethan, spunky daughter Isabel and their three cats Cucho, Chanchita, and Chiquiti.
